Overall sofa depth is not the same as seat depth. The usable sitting area depends on the backrest, cushions and how much they compress. Two sofas with the same overall depth can therefore feel different.
Measure where you actually sit
Assess seat depth from the front edge to the back support with your chosen cushions in place. Sit as you would at home: chatting, reading or relaxing with your legs raised. Try standing up too; a visually low sofa does not tell you its exact seat height.
A practical check before choosing
- Have all main users try the sofa.
- Record overall depth, usable seat depth and seat height separately.
- Ask whether the chosen cushion version changes usable depth.
Specific examples from our catalogue
BAHAMA
The two-seat modular BAHAMA is listed at 226 × 105 × 73 cm; the description gives 86 cm height with the high back cushion. The 105 cm figure is overall depth, not automatically usable seat depth. Confirm the back-cushion version in your chosen configuration.

AGON 3
The three-seat AGON configuration lists a width of 232 cm and depth of 98 cm. It is an example of a straight modular sofa. Compare its price and components against the order plan; “three-seater” does not specify the usable width of each seat.

A common buying question
Does a 105 cm-deep sofa have a 105 cm-deep seat?
No. The overall figure includes the backrest and structure. BAHAMA’s listed 105 cm, for example, is its external depth.
