Soft furniture - how to choose the right one?

Soft furniture - how to choose the right one?

Whether it's a sofa to sink into after a long, tiring day, an armchair to comfortably settle in with a book or magazine, or a bed to fully relax and wake up for a new day - true enjoyment will only be provided by carefully chosen and quality furniture.

As the offer of soft furniture in stores is impressive, without proper preparation, it can be difficult to navigate. The primary criterion will always be quality, so both the materials used and comfort should be taken into account - you should definitely sit or lie down on the furniture before purchasing it to understand if you will enjoy using it -, as well as the manufacturer's reputation and guarantees. But there are still several other important aspects to consider.

Functionality

Will the sofa be placed in the corner of the room as an interior accent, or will it serve as the central gathering place for family and guests? Will your pets also sleep on it? Will the chosen sofa even fit in the room? Is it important that the sofa also serves as a bed? These are the questions you need to patiently answer before heading to the store. If you know that the area designated for the sofa is only one and a half meters, then don't even look at sofas that are 1.60 or 1.80 meters wide. Or – if the sofa is intended for intensive use and you have a cat at home, then consider that a snow-white fabric will only look good for a very short time after purchase, and consider a more practical option.

Material

Nowadays, the choice is very wide - natural, synthetic and mixed fibre fabrics, leather or artificial leather.

It's no secret that natural materials - linen, cotton, wool or leather - are always valued, the only changes may be their texture over time, for example, dense linen can become challenging rough. However, when choosing a material, not only the aesthetic aspect should be taken into account but also how much the furniture will be used.

For example, suede is elegant and pleasant material, but will not be the best choice if there are small children or pets at home. Leather will look representative, yet will not be as soft and cosy as the fabric. But it will be durable and much easier to maintain.

Linen will add a unique refined accent to the interior, but it will not be as resistant to stains and wear and tear as fabrics containing wool.

Character

Classic or modern? If you plan to change your interior in the next five years, you can choose bolder models, patterns and materials that match the freshest trends. However, if the furniture will be your long-term investment, it is worth looking in the direction of classic values that will also be relevant after a year, five and ten years.

Especially highlighted are the currently popular modular furniture - both sofas and couches, which can be easily transformed according to the interior and functional needs. For example, a large sofa in the center of the room can be turned into two armchairs or a small corner sofa. Each module has specially thought-out functions to create your ideal composition. In other words - these sofas can be characterized as dynamic and creative elements of the interior.

Colour

It, of course, depends most on the owner's taste and the surrounding environment. In a peaceful room, a vibrant sofa with a print will fit, while in a saturated interior, the necessary balance can be provided by furniture in a classic, neutral tone. If the furniture you like is in a color that is not exactly in harmony with the rest of the room, consider whether it is possible to change the accents in the room so that the furniture fits, or whether this is not the right furniture. A good solution might be furniture with changeable covers or a large throw blanket - with it, you can instantly create a completely different atmosphere in the room.
