Natural wood beds: advantages and choice

Natural wood beds are a sustainable design choice that brings a natural texture and warm material sensation to the bedroom. The wood grain pattern for each piece of furniture is slightly different, therefore the bed acquires an individual look.

Before purchasing, it should be determined whether the structure is made of solid wood, veneered material, or a combination of the two. The surface finish, frame stability, mattress base, and full external dimensions should also be assessed.

Practical tip: When comparing models, ask not only the name of the wood, but also which parts are made of solid wood and what kind of finish is used.

Solid wood, veneer, or combined construction

Solid wood parts are made from continuous wood, while veneer is a thin layer of real wood on a stable base. Both solutions can have a quality finish, but they have a different construction and price.

The frame connections and central support are particularly important for the bed. The name of the material alone does not guarantee stability, so assess the entire structure.

Wood tone and natural pattern

Oak is usually expressive and visually warm, but other woods can be lighter, darker, or have a finer grain. Natural differences are not a defect, but a feature of the material.

If there's already a wooden floor in the bedroom, the bed doesn't necessarily have to match in tone. A harmonious result can be achieved with a similar warmth or a deliberate contrast.

Bed external dimensions and mattress

The external width of the wooden frame is larger than the size of the mattress. Wide sides or an extended headboard can significantly affect the location of walkways and bedside tables.

Check if the bed set includes slats and what mattress size they are intended for. The mattress is usually chosen separately to match the internal dimensions of the frame.

Wood bed care

Remove dust daily with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid prolonged moisture, aggressive cleaning agents and placing hot objects on the wood surface.

Wood reacts to changes in humidity and temperature. Maintain consistent conditions in the bedroom and do not place the bed directly near a strong heat source.

Example of a natural wood bed

Check the material, dimensions, and available wood versions of a specific model, then compare it with the requirements of the chosen mattress.

Natural wood bed Lacq

Lacq is a solid wood bed that can be ordered in various wood versions, including oak, ash, cherry or walnut. The mattress is not included, so it must be chosen separately.

Frequently asked questions

Can a solid wood bed change tone?

Natural wood can slightly change tone over time and under the influence of light. This is a normal aging process of the material.

Does a wooden bed squeak?

Squeaking is more often caused by loose connections, incorrect assembly, or slat movement, not the material itself. Connections should be checked periodically.

Does any mattress fit a wooden bed?

The mattress must match the interior dimensions of the frame and the base requirements. Also consider the height of the mattress relative to the sides.

Choose a bed with a natural character

A high-quality wooden bed combines a stable structure, thoughtful connections, and an appropriate surface finish. Compare the full dimensions and choose the mattress separately.
